The GMC Envoy is an SUV from the GMC marque of General Motors. It was introduced as a luxury version of the Jimmy for the 1998 model year, the same year the Jimmy was restyled. After a short hiatus during the time of which the Jimmy was phased out, the Envoy reappeared in the GMC line of vehicles from 2002 through 2009 as a standalone model, until GM replaced it with the GMC Terrain.

The GMC Acadia is a full-size crossover SUV from GM. The GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and Saturn Outlook share the new GM Lambda platform. The Acadia went on sale in the United States in December 2006, and in Canada in January, 2007. The Acadia replaces 3 of the 7/8-passenger vehicles on the Pontiac-Buick-GMC dealership network, the mid-size GMC Safari van, the long-wheelbase GMC Envoy XL/XUV, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the USA Only. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous and the Buick Terraza, and then subsequently the GMC Envoy and the Chevrolet TrailBlazer. A Denali version of the Acadia will debut in 2010 as a 2011 model.

General Motors has revealed the latest addition to GMC’s crossover lineup — the 2010 GMC Terrain. Positioned below the full-size Acadia, the Terrain shares its Theta architecture with the new Chevrolet Equinox. The new model replaces the Pontiac Torrent and GMC Envoy.

The Terrain will be offered with two powertrains, a new, 2.4-liter direct injection four-cylinder engine with 182 horsepower that delivers an estimated 30 mpg highway, 21 mpg city (EPA certification pending) and a 3.0-liter direct injected V6 engine with 264 horsepower that returns an estimated 25 mpg highway, 18 mpg city (EPA certification pending). Both are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and are offered in front- or all-wheel drive versions.

GMC's compact SUV is its in-yer-face design with its bold grille, muscular fender flares and squared looks setting it apart from the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox with which it shares just about everything aside from the exterior styling. The Terrain's rugged styling will most likely have a certain appeal to SUV buyers though we must say its rear-end styling looks like an addition of the last moment. Inside, the differences between the Terrain and the Chevy Equinox are much less evident and concern details like the door panels and trim options.

GMC Canyon

The 2009 GMC Canyon is GMC’s midsize pickup truck that is available in Regular Cab, Extended Cab, and Crew Cab versions. The Canyon joined the GMC lineup for the 2004 model year when the Canyon replaced the Sonoma which was one of the first domestically built compact trucks when it was introduced in 1982 as the S-15. The name was changed to Sonoma for the 1992 model year.

The 2009 GMC Canyon offers a new 300-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 engine for Extended Cab and Crew Cab versions, and a new brake system for better stopping power and improved pedal feel. A revised fuel control module improves fuel economy for most trim levels equipped with either the 2.9-liter or 3.7-liter engine. A new ZQ8 sport suspension is offered with lower ride height, 18-inch split-spoke aluminum wheels, performance tires and standard 5.3-liter V8 engine. StabiliTrak electronic stability control is standard for all trim levels of the 2009 GMC Canyon and a series of new wheels are available for the SLE and SLT trim levels.
